THEMES

STARTING FROM THE BULB

The interactions between man and nature, the body/plant balance, are elements which constitute the essential matrix of this concept. Despite being elements that are apparently quite dissimilar, the human body and the plant incorporate a metaphor of great importance from many viewpoints: the equivalent of the human nervous system and the root apex of plants, the importance for both of them to interact with the force of gravity in order to maintain an erect and correctly aligned structure, the metaphor of cultural roots and plant roots, the reproduction system of plants and that of man. To highlight the important aspects of human beings and their bodies, the onlooker is invited to observe them through plants.

THEMES

FROM CELLS TO MOLECULES

This topic leads us in various directions, while constantly maintaining system functioning as a reference. From the metaphor of a human cell which operates a survival system within the body enabling us to identify the equivalent in a particular dynamic of family relations in which an analogous system is actuated, to the movement of water in a clay molecule and its equivalent in the “emerging behaviour patterns” of a social system… the tiny particle becomes an archetypal symbol and a metaphor of a larger and more complex system which is equally functional.

THEMES

SIZE TO HUMAN BODY

The body structure, its balance, its similarity with plants, its various parts and entirety, the perceptions and materials of which it is made.  The body incorporates a genetic, cultural, social and family history. Everything is memorized internally in the course of its evolution, which takes place thanks to its intrinsic resources. Through observation and the study of various body-related sciences, the works and projects are created on the grounds of a “size to human body” concept, around the physical dimension.

THEMES

NEW SKIN

Skin is the barrier between us and the external environment; it is a covering but also a means through which to perceive what is happening around us. So, skin becomes a symbol which, when it falls away, enables the body to renew itself and leave space for what is new, it becomes a research into an individual’s new or forgotten capacities. “New skin” is an exploration, an in-depth probe towards a lens which passes through the object of the research to reach the matrix; an investigation which sets out from a cell as the particle of a tissue which, in its turn, piece by piece, constitutes man’s outer layer. Skin is transfigured to become form, artwork and structure. It is no longer mere skin but now embodies its own significance and experience.

THEMES

FROM FAMILY HERITAGE TO GENETIC TRANSMISSION

The relationship an individual has with culture, with society, with his heritage, and the relationship he has with himself is all recorded in his body. His entire history is handed down by word of mouth and through events of family life and, subsequently, in his social environment, but also thanks to his genetic makeup. Being human is fruit of various combinations which generate endless variants of possibilities. The concept of heritage becomes even more explicit in the relations between female generations, the generational transition of woman/grandmother/mother/daughter.

THEMES

THE PHASIC PROCESS

The development of any scientific reality takes place through a succession of phases. The growth of a human being also follows its phases, exactly like the life of a plant or animal. Phasic processes exist in the experience of every living being, not only for its physiological functioning but also in the cultural processes associated with upbringing, in the social organization, in putting into practice teachings that have been handed down from generation to generation, in the regressive experiences it actuates in the interests of survival.
